The Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts is a nonprofit exhibition venue and research institute. As an exhibition space, it commissions and shows new work by artists from around the world. As a research institute, it dedicates an entire year to reflecting on the work of a single artist, which informs a regular series of public events, texts, and research by other relevant artists and thinkers.
Today the Wattis presents a panel discussion, “On Writing”, at the artists’ bar they have designed at Pier 70. Dodie Bellamy and the new Wattis curator (to be announced soon) are in conversation about the intersection of visual art and writing. Dodie Bellamy is a novelist, poet, essayist, and active member of San Francisco's literary avant-garde.
