This panel explores the evolving role of dual-cultural influences on contemporary artists and curators from East Asia, particularly those educated within a Western context. Many artists and curators emerging from the region today are shaped by a bi-cultural education and outlook, often having completed studies at institutions in the U.S. and Europe before returning to engage with their home art scenes. This experience fosters a dynamic perspective, blending East Asian heritage with Western methodologies, which informs their creative practices and curatorial approaches.
Panelists will examine the impact of globalization and digital media—such as online publications, social platforms, and streaming content—that now enable East Asian artists and curators to access a wide spectrum of global art discourse beyond traditional educational avenues.
This panel was moderated by Haoyang Wang of cub_ism_artspace and features Yiwei Lu of Yiwei Gallery, Shihui Zhao of LATITUDE Gallery, and artist Jess Xiaoyi Han, and was recorded at Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024, on December 7, 2024.
