I must have given a funny look because it was basically a canvas painted in a shade of light brown with texture on the bottom. I was asked what I thought, and I replied how I could have done it, and the gallerist's answer has stayed with me since. Like with anything in life, the more you do it, the stronger your eye becomes; and know that as you have life experiences, your eye will change and evolve. Go to the fairs and see if there are any galleries that you like what they are showing and introduce yourself. If you are ready to buy a work, ask if it's available. If it's sold or you aren't ready, ask to be put on the mailing list and follow them on Instagram so you can see what they are showing, and because the art world is a relationship-based business, keep the dialogue going. And remember there is nothing like having art in your home, so once you start hanging the art you buy at an art fair or from a show at a gallery, you will see and feel how the room has a new life to it.
