18 Jul 2024Untitled Art Miami Beach 2024: 'East Meets West' Thematic Focus

Cross

Untitled Art continues its commitment to curatorially driven presentations and programming, this year focusing on the concept of East Meets West to guide the 13th edition’s selection process.

East Meets West highlights how the market must continue to extend beyond the traditional Western understanding of geography to incorporate more Eastern gallery and artist representation, inclusive of Eastern European, Asia Pacific, Middle Eastern, and Asian diaspora. This focus aims to give a platform to many of the lesser-known artists and communities within the contemporary art market and encourage conversations regarding the differences and similarities to “western” practices and concepts, rethinking the notions of East and West with a universal approach. Building on the diversity of previous years – last year’s edition was the largest and most internationally diverse iteration to date with 166 exhibitors across 38 countries represented – Untitled Art aims to provide the platform necessary to support cultural and commercial exchange, especially by giving visibility to non-mainstream hubs.

Guest curators Kathy Huang and Jungmin Cho, who each bring expertise in established and start-up institutions focusing on Asians and the Asian diaspora, among many other international focal points, will guide this year's theme and selection process.

As in previous years, Untitled Art’s curatorial team has encouraged applicants to frame their proposed selection and programming within these themes, and especially welcomes strong booth concepts featuring solo and two-person presentations. Opportunities for incoming exhibitors—including the continuation of our expanded Exhibitor Prizes —will be celebrating curatorial approaches within these lines.
