Andrew Holmquist is staging a reading of STAGE LEFT, a comic created for an exhibition of the same name held at Carrie Secrist Gallery in January 2016.
STAGE LEFT the exhibition, presented Holmquist’s newest body of work – paintings, ceramics, sculpture and video – in a dynamic installation that was conceived and executed in a manner similar to the theatrical concept of dramaturgy. Evolving out of the artist’s love of comic books, the protagonists develop both within the media they are rendered in, and over the course of the exhibition, into super heroes.
The comic was conceived after the artworks in STAGE LEFT were completed and installed. Its purpose is to re-contextualize the settings, events and characters from the individual works in the exhibition, into a clear, albeit whimsical, illustrated narrative.
This radio program features Holmquist’s “reading” of STAGE LEFT the comic: placing another layer of dramatic interpretation on a narrative that can’t be seen – but only heard.
This program is presented by Untitled, Miami Beach exhibitor, Carrie Secrist Gallery (Chicago), Booth A23.
